I appreciate your wisdom.

My first point was not so much that every day should be Mother's Day, but that we should honor our mothers every day. I think there is a difference. But whether a family decides that they want to celebrate Mother's Day also or not is completely their choice. I don't think it is wrong at all--we just prefer not to in our family.

But in regards to the Lord's Day argument: As I mentioned, I think there is a difference between honoring our mothers on Sunday and using a Sunday to celebrate them. Just as my pastor does not set the leftover Lord's Supper bread out with the fellowship meal because it has been consecrated, I don't think we should use the Lord's Day to lift up any person other than Christ, because it has been consecrated to Him. That's my family's belief, as far as we understand it. Every ought to be the day when husband and children honor the mother in their home, and the ones who have gone before.

I suspect that, for the most part, those of whom you saw glowing posts on FB, or wherever, were not *surprised* by them. They are likely the recipients of that honor continually...with brief interruptions caused by the body of death that those giving the honor inhabit. The fact that those giving the honor choose to participate in the heaping on of a little more on one day of the year...who's to be concerned? Those who honor in a godly manner throughout the year aren't likely to drift into idolatry on Mothers' Day.

With regard to objection next...we can likely give appropriate honor without stealing away from the honor due Yahweh. He, indeed, is the one who mandates honor of father and mother, and to do so is to show obedience. Of great concern are those who 'honor' only once a year (which is really no honor at all), which is dishonor to and theft from Yahweh, while those who more greatly honor on a day, even the Lord's Day, perform that which He requires.

Christ's blessings on you and your family.

PBTom Brainerdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15419328123064067455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-410130001298358854.post-75929368506689578852013-03-15T07:41:08.069-05:002013-03-15T07:41:08.069-05:00I think your description of pushing would be prett...I think your description of pushing would be pretty close to how I remember it with Ralphie. I am indeed blessed!

Claire, thank you!

Ashlee, I would think that the first year is much harder for people who come from broken homes and don't have examples of good marriage relationships in their parents. Ever since I've been old enough to pay attention, I've been witnessing the fruit of 10-25 years of godly habit-forming in my parents' exchanges between one another. So whatever I myself may be lacking, at least I have good models to whom I can hold myself up.
Also...you are so sweet! We're getting a little restless ourselves. :-)

God bless,
~HannahHannah Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05264247259911142756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-410130001298358854.post-13603581059228717882012-06-18T20:13:20.216-05:002012-06-18T20:13:20.216-05:00Very nice post! My initial thought would be that it depends on what you ( or rather, God) think holidays are for. Are holidays an excuse to party and eat chocolate and visit family and friends? Or are they meant to help us remember important things? Are they supposed to be like any other day, like a Saturday night in college, or like a Sabbath on steroids, or what? I personally think that holidays as "holy-days" or days of memorial or remembering are legitimate and Scriptural (or otherwise "God-approved"). But I still have some reservations and questions, so I hope following your posts and hashing it out some will be helpful. I hope you and your growing family are doing well!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-410130001298358854.post-6691706984106690012012-04-09T13:15:16.624-05:002012-04-09T13:15:16.624-05:00haha!
